About

Dr Debbie Whānganui, originally born in Botswana as Debbie Molefe, moved to Dunedin at a young age with her family. From an early age, she showed strong academic promise and was quickly recognised by her teachers as having a particular talent for biology. Accelerated through her intermediate and secondary education, she began a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Ōtago, graduating with honours. She went on to complete both a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Biology, later lecturing at the University of Ōtago while conducting research within its fertility centres.

After publishing her most recognisable paper, “Exploring the Feasibility of Induced Uterine-Like Tissue Development in Beta Male Patients for Assisted Reproductive Technologies”, she was approached by Dr Melanie Douchewater to serve as Director of Research for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Sexology Tauranga. It was there that she met her wife, Angela Whānganui, who had previously had a brief tryst with Dr Douchewater. Dr Whānganui likes to quip that she can still taste Dr Douchewater's pussy juices on her wifes tongue. In her spare time, Dr Whānganui assists with course coordination for the Bachelor of Mpreg Studies, a programme in which her research expertise is invaluable.
