Overview
This beginner practicum provides hands-on instruction in opening, configuring, and using a web browser in business and everyday work environments. Students identify suitable devices, locate browser applications, recognize interface controls, launch and close browsers, and access assigned websites.
Guided practical activities develop basic navigation, searching, tab management, scrolling, zooming, bookmarking, and browser recovery skills. The course emphasizes responsible search practices, accessibility accommodations, protection of passwords and personal information, recognition of secure and suspicious web behavior, safe handling of downloads and pop-ups, and appropriate help-seeking. Assessment focuses on task completion, confidence, and the ability to explain procedures verbally or in writing.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify an appropriate computer or mobile device and locate an installed web browser.
- Demonstrate how to launch, close, and reopen a web browser using the device interface.
- Enter an assigned web address and navigate to an approved website.
- Apply browser controls, including back, forward, scrolling, zooming, and bookmarking.
- Manage a small set of browser tabs by opening, switching between, and closing tabs.
- Evaluate common browser safety cues, including secure connections, suspicious links, downloads, pop-ups, and requests for personal information.
- Complete a simple browser-based workplace task and explain each step using an accessible communication method.
