Overview
This course develops foundational literacy in simplified Chinese for students acquiring basic Mandarin proficiency. It introduces character structure, radicals, stroke order, phonetic components, spacing conventions, and methods for recognizing and retaining high-frequency characters.
Students engage with beginner-level dialogues, schedules, menus, signs, short messages, personal profiles, classroom notices, advertisements, and brief cultural passages. Instruction addresses sentence order, nouns and pronouns, time expressions, locations, possession, descriptions, question words, measure words, and functional vocabulary. Students apply context clues, visual patterns, dictionaries, and digital input tools to infer meaning, confirm pronunciation, and interpret cultural context.
