Overview
This course examines the extraction, interpretation, and operational use of point-of-sale data for real-time yield management. Students analyze transaction-data architecture, demand forecasting, product and menu mix, dynamic and segmented pricing, inventory coordination, capacity utilization, promotion effectiveness, contribution margins, labor-aware scheduling, and real-time performance dashboards.
Applied work uses a simulated point-of-sale dataset to develop operational analyses, decision briefs, dashboards, and scenario recommendations. The course emphasizes transparent pricing, consumer protection, privacy, accessibility, responsible personalization, algorithmic accountability, and effective communication with operational and executive stakeholders.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate point-of-sale data architectures and transaction metrics used in revenue and yield management.
- Interpret average transaction value, conversion rate, gross margin, waste, stockout frequency, capacity utilization, and promotion-performance measures.
- Develop demand forecasts and product-mix analyses to support inventory, staffing, pricing, and capacity decisions.
- Design transparent pricing, promotion, and personalization strategies that balance revenue objectives with customer trust and regulatory obligations.
- Construct a real-time dashboard or decision brief that communicates actionable operational recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze scenario-based yield-management decisions using contribution-margin, demand, inventory, and labor considerations.
- Evaluate privacy, consumer-protection, accessibility, dark-pattern, and algorithmic-accountability risks in point-of-sale analytics.
- Synthesize an ethics and compliance review into a responsible yield-management framework.
