Hockey Athletic Conditioning II

Overview

Hockey Athletic Conditioning II develops advanced knowledge and applied skills in hockey-specific physical preparation. Students examine periodization, training phases, maximal and explosive strength, power development, repeated-sprint ability, anaerobic conditioning, aerobic support, change-of-direction mechanics, reactive agility, plyometric progressions, unilateral training, rotational power, energy-system demands, and position-specific preparation.

The course addresses workload management, readiness monitoring, fatigue, overtraining risk, recovery strategies, and performance adaptations across preseason, in-season, and offseason periods. Practical instruction emphasizes safe technique in advanced resistance and power exercises, exercise selection, regression and progression, testing protocols, data interpretation, and individualized program design.

Students apply assessment data to construct, evaluate, and defend multi-phase hockey conditioning plans. Emphasis is placed on appropriate manipulation of volume and intensity, adaptation to fatigue and injury limitations, and technically sound delivery of advanced training methods.

Learning Outcomes

  • Design and defend a multi-phase hockey conditioning plan for preseason, in-season, and offseason demands.
  • Evaluate hockey energy-system requirements and position-specific physical preparation needs.
  • Select and sequence exercises according to strength, power, speed, agility, and conditioning objectives.
  • Apply appropriate training volume, intensity, density, and recovery intervals to advanced conditioning programs.
  • Interpret fitness, readiness, and workload data to inform training decisions.
  • Modify conditioning programs in response to fatigue, overtraining risk, or injury-related limitations.
  • Demonstrate advanced resistance, plyometric, sprint, and change-of-direction techniques using sound safety practices.
  • Assess training outcomes and justify program adjustments using relevant performance evidence.

Teaching Staff & Programs

This course is delivered jointly by faculty from the participating programs listed below. In line with the Douchewater Way, the University of Sexology tailors core instruction directly to each cohort's specific discipline — adapting curriculum to program needs rather than forcing students into a one-size-fits-all model.
