Overview
This capstone course guides students through the conception, development, production, and presentation of a substantial original arts project. Approved outcomes may include an exhibition, performance, composition, film, design portfolio, creative technology work, community arts initiative, or another discipline-specific project.
Students integrate technical, conceptual, and research-based methods while defining project scope, managing schedules and budgets, addressing materials and technical requirements, and documenting iterative decisions. Studio and seminar activities address experimentation, peer critique, supervision, production management, risk assessment, accessibility, sustainability, collaboration, and audience engagement.
The course culminates in a public or scholarly presentation supported by critical and reflective documentation. Students evaluate the relationship between intention, process, research, and outcome, situating their practice within contemporary artistic contexts.
Learning Outcomes
- Formulate a coherent creative proposition supported by relevant contextual and practice-based research.
- Synthesize technical, conceptual, and research methods in the development of an original arts project.
- Manage an extended independent project through appropriate planning, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, and risk assessment.
- Evaluate artistic precedents and contemporary contexts in relation to project intentions and outcomes.
- Apply constructive critique to revise creative, technical, and logistical decisions.
- Resolve complex creative and production problems using appropriate disciplinary methods and resources.
- Present a completed arts project to an appropriate public or scholarly audience using effective interpretive and technical strategies.
- Critically evaluate the project through reflective documentation that links intention, process, research, and outcome.
