Overview
This advanced, project-based course provides a culminating study in dance performance and choreography. Students conceive, research, develop, rehearse, revise, document, and publicly present an original or collaboratively created dance work.
The course integrates choreographic structure, movement vocabulary, thematic development, improvisation, rehearsal leadership, performer interpretation, spatial and temporal composition, sound, lighting, costuming, stage management, production planning, and audience engagement. Students connect studio practice with dance history, cultural context, ethical collaboration, responsible treatment of source material, and community-informed movement traditions.
Project development is supported through proposal writing, research statements, rehearsal logs, peer feedback, technical rehearsals, performance documentation, and critical reflection. Students complete a polished capstone supported by written and visual documentation.

- Apply advanced technical, compositional, and expressive skills in the creation and performance of a dance work.
- Create and revise choreography through experimentation, improvisation, structured feedback, and reflective analysis.

- Manage rehearsal, technical, and production responsibilities using appropriate planning and documentation methods.
- Collaborate with designers, technicians, performers, and production personnel to realize an integrated performance.
- Evaluate artistic choices and performance outcomes through critical reflection informed by dance scholarship and studio practice.
- Present a polished capstone performance and portfolio that communicate the work's artistic aims, development, and outcomes.
