Overview
This capstone provides supervised, independent study in the interdisciplinary analysis of erotic hockey literature, fan fiction, and related communities. Students formulate and complete a focused research or creative-critical project grounded in literary, cultural, and media scholarship.
Projects may examine genre history, representations of desire and consent, queer or feminist reinterpretations of hockey culture, fan labor, platform moderation, adaptation, readership, anonymity, or the relationship between sports narratives and erotic conventions. Approved formats may include a research thesis, critical edition, digital exhibit, podcast series, or creative work accompanied by a scholarly rationale.
Students develop a proposal, annotated bibliography, methodological statement, ethics and risk assessment, work plan, draft, peer-review presentation, and final submission. Emphasis is placed on intellectual rigor, originality, sustained analysis, ethical handling of sensitive materials, privacy, copyright, consent, accessibility, revision, and communication with academic and public audiences.
Learning Outcomes
- Formulate an original research or creative-critical question concerning erotic hockey literature, fan cultures, or related media.
- Evaluate relevant literary, cultural, feminist, queer, and media theories in relation to a defined capstone project.
- Synthesize primary and secondary evidence through sustained textual, cultural, or practice-based analysis.
- Design an appropriate research or creative methodology, work plan, and documentation strategy.
- Assess ethical, privacy, copyright, consent, accessibility, and platform-related considerations in the handling and presentation of sensitive materials.
- Revise a substantial project in response to supervisory and peer feedback.
- Communicate complex findings or creative-critical arguments clearly to academic and public audiences.
